The Los Angeles Lakers are set to kick off the NBA restart by battling the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday, but they may have to do it without Anthony Davis.

On Tuesday, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said he wasn't sure if Davis, who is dealing with an eye injury, would be able to play against the Clippers:

“There is some concern that he could not play Thursday,” said Vogel, via Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints. “He will continue to be evaluated each day.”

Anthony Davis suffered the injury over the weekend, when he was poked in the eye while fighting for a rebound during the first quarter of Los Angeles' exhibition matchup with the Orlando Magic.

The good news is that Davis' injury does not appear to be all that serious, and even if he is sidelined against the Clippers, he will likely be back on the court fairly soon.

Through 55 games before the 2019-20 campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, Davis was averaging 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.5 steals over 34.3 minutes per game while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor, 33.5 percent from three-point range and 84.5 percent from the free-throw line en route to an All-Star appearance.

While LeBron James has garnered most of the attention in terms of MVP voting, Davis has made a pretty sound case for Defensive Player of the Year honors, an award he has never won since entering the NBA in 2012.

Davis spent the first seven seasons of his career with the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, earning six straight All-Star selections between 2014 and 2019. He was traded to the Lakers last June.
