Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Danny Green and Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard won't be teammates this season for the first time in Leonard's career.

Leonard and Green were teammates on the San Antonio Spurs for seven seasons and played one year together on the Toronto Raptors. The duo split up this summer after Leonard signed with the Clippers. Green joined the Lakers after Kawhi made his decision.

Despite being rivals in Los Angeles now, Danny Green says Kawhi Leonard will always be “family” to him.

“That’s my guy. He’s family, still,” Green told Wosny Lambre of The Athletic. “We still chop it up here and there to see how things are going. We’re in the same city and it’s going to be strange to be playing against each other, but we’ve been together for 7, 8 years and have bonded over that time. Its only natural to grow into a good friendship. So I’m sure we’ll keep in contact and update each other on things happening. And we’ll probably link up for a few dinners.”

The Lakers and Clippers play on opening night. Both teams are title contenders with their revamped rosters.

Everyone wants to see the Clippers and Lakers meet in the 2020 Western Conference Finals. It would only be fitting to see Green guard Leonard if that series takes places.
