The Los Angeles Lakers have a busy offseason in front of them after an early playoff exit. One player at the forefront of their decisions is point guard Dennis Schroder, who is expected to hit the open market and should have plenty of suitors. With the Tokyo Olympics approaching, it seems Schroder has made his decision on playing with the German National Team, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Not good news for Germany, but probably the right decision for Schroder. He just wants some insurance– or at least it seems– in case of an injury. According to Eurohoops.net, it was “due to the enormous insurance requirements that can’t be met.”

Makes sense. With Schroder ready to hit the NBA free agency market, and thoughts of him commanding as much as $100 million in total money, it is a smart move for him to not risk a serious injury.

Schroder's lone season with the Lakers was decent, and if it wasn't for his playoff performance– specifically his goose egg in Game 5 against the Phoenix Suns– he might be easily getting $100 over four years.

He ended his campaign averaged 15.4 points with 5.8 assists and brought the energy on the defensive end every game and proved he can be a quality starting point guard at the NBA level. While the German team is upset, it makes a ton of sense for Schroder to skip and seek huge money in the market.

Other NBA stars– notably Shai Gilgeous-Alexander– are also facing the same decision regarding the games, and are expected to go the same route as Schroder.
