Aside from LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers needed other key players to step up to have a chance against the Phoenix Suns in Game 5 without Anthony Davis. Dennis Schroder is the Lakers' third-leading scorer, so he was one of those players.

Instead, Schroder put forth arguably the worst game of his career in a hideous defeat, literally scoring zero points while missing all nine of his field-goal attempts and all four of his 3-pointers. The point guard also handed out just a single assist in his 26 minutes of action and was a minus-17. At least he didn't turn the ball over?

After the game, the Lakers point guard took accountability for his dud of a performance:

That's really all Schroder can say after this ghastly effort. The 115-85 loss isn't all on him given basically everybody stunk, but Schroder being that awful helped set the tone for the night as he got badly outplayed by Devin Booker and Cameron Payne.

Schroder is looking for a big payday in the offseason, and he's currently in the process of lighting a whole lot of money on fire. The Lakers guard reportedly turned down a four-year, $84 million extension, and it's hard to see him getting that much now unless he really turns things around in this series and beyond. He also put up a stinker in the Game 4 loss.

The Lakers need to regroup quickly after this debacle. It's not yet known if Anthony Davis will play, but Los Angeles must be better whether he suits up or not. Schroder and the Lakers need to bring a stronger effort to the table in Game 6.
