The pending free agency of Kawhi Leonard is one of the biggest stories this offseason, but ESPN analyst Jay Williams it would be a mistake for Leonard to move.

“The biggest mistake that would happen would be Kawhi Leonard to the Lakers,” Williams said on First Take.

It has been reported by ESPN's Stephen A. Smith that the Lakers are “serious contenders” for Leonard.

Leonard declined his $21.3 million player option with the Raptors, but is still interested in signing with the team. Declining the player option sets Leonard up to sign a contract up to $32.7 million per year for five years if he were to stay with the Raptors.

After a monster trade to acquire power forward Anthony Davis, Los Angeles is now one of the most enticing free agent destinations.

During the 2018-2019 season, Leonard averaged 26.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 60 games. But Kawhi was a whole different player in the postseason, averaging 30.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists, leading Toronto to their first ever NBA Championship.

Leonard can be the first player in NBA history to win three championships with three different teams if he leaves Toronto this season.

The other team invested in the Leonard sweepstakes is the Los Angeles Clippers.

Leonard potentially going to Hollywood could have significant implications on all other 29 teams and their offseason plans. The fate of the league itself will be changed.
