The New York Knicks honored the great Kobe Bryant on the day of his tragic passing by putting up a larger than life billboard of the Los Angeles Lakers legend right outside the famed Madison Square Garden.

The billboard was aptly very straightforward, and it was indeed a very classy way for the Knicks organization to honor one of the best players this sport has ever seen in Bryant.

The Knicks and the Lakers have one of the fiercest rivalries in the NBA. Needless to say, however, this recent turn of events is much bigger than basketball, and it was only right that New York honored a true legend of the game.

Kobe Bryant had his share of unforgettable moments in MSG, but definitely none more outstanding than his 61-point performance in the Garden on February 2, 2009. At that time, it was a record for the most points scored by any player inside the Madison Square Garden — a feat that would only be surpassed by Carmelo Anthony's career-high 62-point effort some five years later.

On Sunday, news broke that Bryant and his party had been involved in a helicopter crash in the city of Calabasas in California. Kobe was one of the casualties of the accident, along with his eldest daughter, Gigi.

The rest of the sporting world is one with mourning with the Knicks, and unfortunately, this is not the type of tragedy that we will be moving on from anytime soon. Mamba forever.
