Future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant is currently enjoying retirement after playing 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers and cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history.
Although Bryant's playing days are over, the five-time NBA champion has remained in the public eye as he embarks on his new career building up his company, Kobe Inc. Bryant recently sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg on the Awards Chatter podcast and was asked what he'd do during the national anthem if he was still playing in the NBA.
“Kneel,” Bryant said.
The Lakers legend was also asked about President Donald Trump and if he could say to the controversial figure if he had the opportunity to talk to him.
“Focus on serving, not leading,” Bryant on what he'd say to Trump.
Currently, no one in the NBA has kneeled during the national anthem throughout the preseason. The league sent out a memo to teams before the preseason about the national anthem reminding them of the requirement for players, coaches, and trainers to stand.
Despite no one being bold enough to defy the NBA's rule for standing for the national anthem, it'll be interesting to see if that changes once the regular season gets underway on Oct. 17. Bryant's comments may even inspire someone to kneel or sit during the anthem once the season begins in the coming weeks.
