Los Angeles Lakers fans were up in arms on Twitter over TV commentator Bill Macdonald's recent statement during their team's matchup against the Houston Rockets. The veteran play-by-play announcer dropped what many seemed to consider as the mother of absurd comments when he compared Talen Horton-Tucker to the one and only Kobe Bryant.
To Billy Mac's defense, he wasn't referring to Horton-Tucker's entire package, but only his perceived capability to power through an entire game while playing left-handed. This remains to be highly debatable, but not exactly at the level of the usual morning show hot takes.
Still, one simply doesn't put anybody's name in the same breath as the Lakers legend. It's a harsh lesson Macdonald had to relearn, courtesy of purple and gold fanatics.

Jeannie Buss didn't pack the Lakers' roster with the likes of LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, and Carmelo Anthony only for Kobe's name to be invoked for THT. Lakers fans are known to have the tendency to overreact, but it's a totally different story when the sacred name of Bean is involved.
To be fair, the young Lakers forward isn't a slouch. In fact, he was re-signed by the team to a three-year deal worth $32 million in the offseason. That should speak loudly of what he can bring to the table. Then again, there are lines that one does not cross.
The Lakers appear to be quite high on THT, though. And no one's closing the door on the possibility of the 6-foot-4 swingman being, one day, a certified star in the league.
