Even Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James couldn't believe what Jay Williams tweeted about the Boston Celtics' reported hiring of Ime Udoka. In fact, he wishes the screenshots of the tweet before it was deleted were all photoshopped.
For those who haven't seen it yet, the former Chicago Bulls guard and current ESPN analyst celebrated on Tuesday after Udoka's hiring, highlighting that he's “the first head coach of color for the Celtics.” Unfortunately, Williams couldn't be more wrong given Boston's history of hiring minority coaches throughout the franchise's existence.
Of course, Williams was roasted for the uninformed tweet, and the Lakers forward couldn't help but join in the fun.
Poor Jay Williams. While he has already deleted his initial Twitter post, the screenshots of it will remain on the internet and haunt him forever. He'll probably be mocked for it in the future when someone digs it up when needed.
But hey, all jokes aside, he is right to be happy for Ime Udoka's hiring. LeBron James, his Lakers teammates, and others in the NBA are probably ecstatic too, as another black coach is given the opportunity to become a head coach. Considering that it's the Celtics, too, it is undoubtedly a big step for representation of minority coaches.
