LeBron James continues to add his name to the Lakers' record books and join Kobe Bryant in the process.

After scoring 20 points in the first half of Los Angeles' game against the Detroit Pistons Thursday night, James became only the third player in the last 25 years of Lakers' history to score at least 20 points in the first half of three consecutive games, according to ESPN Stats & Info. LeBron is also the first to accomplish the feat since Kobe Byrant in 2012.

While James paced Los Angeles to a lead at the half thanks to his early scoring outburst, LeBron was only able to score another two points in the game as the Lakers fell to the Pistons 107-92. With Anthony Davis sitting out the finale of the team's back-to-back with a sore quad, LA failed to find an efficient scoring partner to alleviate the pressure on James.

In dropping the match, the Lakers face their first two-game losing streak of the season and have dropped to third place in the Western Conference behind the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers. Though it's likely to generate an ample amount of attention, the skid, and subsequent fall in the conference pecking order is relatively small, given that a game only separates the teams in the standings.

As for LeBron, accomplishing a milestone that Kobe Bryant was last able to reach with the Lakers should have a special meaning, given the anniversary of Bryant's death two days ago. While the two stars were close during Kobe's life, his tragic death has inspired James to talk openly about his desire to carry on the former star's legacy with the franchise he carried for over two decades. Should he continue playing as he did in the first half against Detroit, it won't be the last time we link Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, not by a longshot, and not in 2021, either.
