LeBron James hit an eerily familiar-looking fadeaway against Luka Doncic in the Los Angeles Lakers' Christmas Day match-up against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday. It was a shot that the late Kobe Bryant would have certainly approved.

With a minute left before the halftime buzzer, The King sized up the Slovenian guard in the post before nailing an incredibly tough jumper over his face. Here's the brilliant play, which gave the reigning champs an eight-point advantage.

While LeBron James has added that off-balanced shot to his arsenal in recent years, Laker fans can't help but feel a bit of nostalgia each time they see a perfectly executed fadeaway. James' difficult attempt certainly had shades of the late Kobe Bryant, who punished a lot of opposing defenders with that signature move back in his playing day.

Here's one of the many gorgeous Bryant fadeaways–over LeBron no less–just to jog your memory.

Kobe, of course, got that unstoppable shot after closely studying and mimicking Michael Jordan's game.  LeBron's version, on the other hand, does look a bit more like Dirk Nowitzki's patented one-legged fader. Still, the results speak for themselves and it's nice to see another Lakers great pulling off that iconic shot at Staples.

LeBron and the Lakers, meanwhile, were looking to bounce back after losing their season opener against the Los Angeles Clippers. The four-time MVP recently revealed that he felt the spirit of Kobe when he received his championship ring from the Purple and Gold. Judging by that Kobe-esque shot he just pulled off, it looks like James is certainly trying to honor the Black Mamba's legacy anyway he can.
