Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is dealing with a bit of an illness, but the team is hoping that the three-time champion will be able to play in Tuesday night's game against the Knicks.
James is coming off of yet another impressive performance, one in which he recorded his 90th career triple-double. The Akron native logged 35 minutes in Sunday night's 106-99 victory over the Pistons, scoring 21 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Anthony Davis led the Lakers, racking up 24 points and 11 rebounds. Impressively, Davis scored 11 of his 24 points in the final 3:40 of play.
With the pairing of James and Davis in full swing, the Lakers are looking like a top contender. The team is currently holding a 29-7 overall record, which is good for the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference standings. Furthermore, Los Angeles is riding the wave of a five-game winning streak, which includes victories over the Mavericks and Trail Blazers.
If James is ruled out for Tuesday night's game against the Knicks, players like Rajon Rondo and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope would likely see upticks in their usage rates. But the Lakers appear optimistic that James will be able to suit up.
Tuesday night's Lakers-Knicks game is scheduled to tip inside the Staples Center at 10:30 p.m. ET, with ESPN having live broadcast coverage.
