LeBron James was a basketball phenom well before he reached the NBA.

He earned the reputation as a generational prospect playing high school basketball at St. Vincent-St. Mary high school in his hometown of Akron, OH, dominating the prep circuit and earning enough hype to be selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.

But when James visits Columbus on Saturday, he will be cheering on his son, Bronny, as Sierra Canyon takes on James' alma mater (via ESPN):

James is headed to Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday for a high school game like no other. It pits his alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary's of Akron, against Sierra Canyon — the team featuring, among others, his son Bronny and Dwyane Wade's son Zaire. James said he won't be conflicted. “I'll be cheering for my son,” LeBron James said.

Of course, it is no surprise that LeBron will cheer for Sierra Canyon. he has been a fierce advocate for Bronny ever since he first began to make noise on the AAU circuit.

Nevertheless, it is fun to reminisce on just how dominant James was in high school. In two sports, by the way. LeBron was a first team all-state wide receiver in high school and was recruited by Urban Meyer.

But James is well aware of what this current opportunity means to his son. Sierra Canyon is renowned as one of the finest high school basketball programs, having produced recent collegiate players like Cassius Stanley and Marvin Bagley III.

Will there be any nostalgia? Possibly. But James will be rooting for the Trailblazers.
