Magic Johnson isn't saying Jeanie Buss should sell the Lakers right now. However, if she were to ever consider that option, it sounds like he would be a potential buyer.

According to a report from Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times, Johnson would be interested in forming a financial team to purchase the Lakers — if Jeanie were to sell.

The Buss name has been affiliated with the Lakers franchise for years. It would seem unlikely that Jeanie would consider selling. If she does, though, it could leave the door open for Magic.

Johnson served as the Lakers' president of basketball operations for the 2018-19 campaign. However, he decided to step down from his position at the end of the regular season, much to the surprise of the franchise.

“Sometimes you just have to go out and do your thing, and that's what I did,” Johnson said on Monday's airing of ESPN's First Take, referring to his decision to step down as president of basketball ops with the Lakers.

When asked if he would change the way he left, Magic gave a simple reply.

“I'm not a regretful person,” Johnson said. “I stick to my guns. I didn't just wake up and say, ‘Oh, I'm going to leave the Lakers.' This was building up.”

To his credit, Johnson is a Lakers legend, though it's not clear how he would perform as an owner. He knows the game well, but would he be able to acquire the talent needed to push the team into the postseason?
