Reports have it that Michael Beasley's mother has passed away after a long bout with cancer. Beasley has been on leave from the Los Angeles Lakers to take care of his ailing mother before she, unfortunately, died on Sunday.

Beasley shared a photo of her mother through Instagram, putting in an angel emoji as the caption of his Instagram post.

The 6-foot-9 combo forward, who signed with the revamped Lakers in the offseason, has played only 10 games for the team this season. The 29-year old former second overall pick showed improved focus and scoring prowess last year for the New York Knicks, arguably drawing the interest of the Lakers front office.

Beasley hasn't been with the team for the past eight games to be with his mother. A couple of weeks before his mother passed away, Lakers sophomore Kyle Kuzma let his teammate know that the team is behind him in this tough process, per Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.

“I couldn’t imagine going through it especially with the relationship I have with my mother,” Kuzma said. “I know he has the same. We’re all here for him, giving him a helping hand for whatever he has. It was just great to see him.”

It remains to be seen when will Beasley don the Lakers jersey again. He has been in and out of head coach Luke Walton's rotation, but his versatility on the offensive end is always a great advantage for the team.

The Lakers will take on the Golden State Warriors in a much-awaited Christmas Day match-up.
