Former Los Angeles Lakers star Pau Gasol posted a heartfelt message in honor of his friend and teammate, Kobe Bryant, on what would be the late legend's 42nd birthday.

“With tears in my eyes today… I just wish so badly that you were here celebrating your bday with your girls and family. I miss you and Gigi so much brother. I will always be thankful for how much you have impacted my life in so many different ways,” Gasol wrote on Twitter with a picture of him and Bryant during their Lakers days.

Gasol and Bryant won two NBA championships together in 2009 and 2010.

Earlier this month, on Gasol's birthday, Vanessa Bryant shared images of “Uncle Pau” hanging out with Kobe’s daughters, Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.

The NBA community and larger world celebrated the memory of Bryant on his birthday.

Vanessa posted a heartfelt message to Kobe on Instagram, expressing her pride in the strength of her daughters. “I've been complete broken inside. As much as I want to cry, I put a smile on my face to make our daughters shine a little brighter. I'm not the strong one, they are. They're strong and resilient,” she wrote.

Like Gasol, New York Liberty star and friend of Kobe's, Sabrina Ionescu, has been spending time with the Bryant girls.
