Shaquille O'Neal has reacted to the announcement that his longtime Los Angeles Lakers running mate Kobe Bryant is now immortalized as the third cover athlete of NBA 2K21.

The tweet below shows the cover of the current-generation “Mamba Forever Edition” — one accompanied by the next-gen cover that boasts Bryant with the No. 24 jersey:

O'Neal has been on the record remembering his time with Bryant, as the two won three straight titles with the Lakers. While they had their differences during their playing days, both stars eventually mended fences and became amicable again, putting the early part of their careers behind them.

2K Sports did a fantastic job, not only with the impeccable watercolor image for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One titles but also with the concept of breaking it down for two generations of consoles.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will launch at some point during the holidays. Those who pre-order the “Mamba Forever Edition” for PS4 or Xbox One will get a voucher for the next-gen digital version of the game, so they may carry their saved files to the next generation. Those who buy the next-gen “Mamba Forever Edition” will get a voucher for a digital version of the older gen (PS4/Xbox One).

Long ago, The Big Aristotle was on the cover of NBA 2K6, as the second player not named Allen Iverson to grace the cover of the game. Shaq will surely cop one of these Mamba covers — if not for his son Shareef, it might be one for his very own collection.
