The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off one of their most disappointing seasons in the franchise's storied history. They actually entered the 2021-2022 season as the favorite in Las Vegas to win the NBA title. Instead, they failed to even reach the play-in tournament, finishing 11th in the Western Conference.

Right as the season ended, news broke that the Lakers had fired Frank Vogel as head coach. He was less than two years removed from coaching Los Angeles to a championship. Yet, the Lakers find themselves in search for a new head coach.

Enter Shaquille O'Neal. Shaq threw has hit in the ring, sort of, as Bleacher Report noted on Instagram:

The former Lakers legendary center was quoted: “If they offered me $25 million a year for four years, I'd coach the Lakers.”

That is obviously highly unlikely that Los Angeles, or any team for that matter, would offer so much money for a coach. More than likely, the sentiment was a message on the state of things with the Lakers. It is so bad there right now, it would take an impossibility for Shaq to even consider coaching Los Angeles.

O'Neal is also likely very comfortable in his studio job with TNT.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are still searching for their next candidate to coach LeBron James, Anthony Davis and this squad. It is the oldest roster in the NBA, is strapped financially and has near no valuable draft picks in the near future. James is almost 40 years old. Anthony Davis is always hurt. Therefore, it is hardly a great job.
