The sudden death of Kobe Bryant yesterday was an event that nobody in the league wanted to happen. While everyone is trying to make sense of the sudden passing of the Los Angeles Lakers star, various sportsbooks pulled off a grand gesture.

Andrew O'Malley of VegasSlotsOnline.com reported that at least two popular sportsbooks have announced the closing of their markets yesterday as a show of respect to the Laker legend.

Popular gambling destination Resorts Casino in Atlantic City published a respectful message that was meant to inform their patrons of Bryant's passing.

Bryant was deemed to be one of the best basketball players of all time. He was 41 years old when the helicopter he was traveling in crashed in Calabasas, California on Sunday morning. His 13-year-old daughter and seven other people also died in the accident. Bryant is survived by three daughters and his wife.

They followed the announcement with an announcement that all of their NBA-related businesses will be canceled for today and will be reopened at 9 AM the following day.

Cira Sports immediately closed all of its NBA-related markets and confirmed it to their followers on Twitter. They will be opening their markets a little earlier than Resorts Casino at 8 in the morning.

These gestures probably cost these companies millions in earnings, but the move was a great tribute to one of basketball's greatest players. For an industry whose fortunes depend on athletes such as Bryant, it was only fitting that they sacrificed their earnings for the day if it meant paying their respects to one of the greats who was taken too soon.

Bryant had a Hall of Fame career during his 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers. He gave fans plenty of thrills and spills that will continuously be talked about by fans for the rest of their lives.
