The Los Angeles Lakers will open their practice facility on Saturday despite the recent stay-at-home order that has been stretched to the next three months in L.A. County. According to Shams Charania of Stadium, the facility will be open on a limited basis and will have players trickle in when possible after receiving clearance from the county to conduct workouts.

The Lakers will also have to conform to the NBA's strict policies for workouts, including a player and staff limit, medical consult, and sanitation protocols.

A recent Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday had L.A. County stretch its stay-at-home order into July “with all certainty,” though noting restrictions will be “gradually relaxed” under a five-step plan.

Per Colleen Shalby and Sarah Parvini of The Los Angeles Times:

“We are being guided by science and data that will safely move us forward along the road to recovery in a measured way—one that allows us to ensure that effective distancing and infection control measures are in place,” said county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer, adding that the county is counting on the public’s compliance with the orders to be able to relax restrictions.

The county has cleared the Lakers to hold informal workouts at their practice facility even as the rest of the county has yet to see any of its restrictions lifted. The NBA's strict guidelines for safety and sanitation has played a major part as to why the Lakers were given the green light.

“I'm told not all seven days of the week will be open to players and personnel and they will have to follow the NBA's strict guidelines,” said Charania.

Yet for LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the Lakers, some progress is better than none at these uncertain times, as some of the elite players push for the 2019-20 season to resume.
