The Los Angeles Lakers have started to get in touch with soon-to-be free agent forward Julius Randle, but thus far, there hasn't been any signs of their level of interest in their homegrown product, who had his best of three full seasons with the franchise after only playing 14 minutes in his debut season, going down to a season-ending broken tibia injury.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said there was “a mutual exchange of interest and hoping that we can work something out for both sides.”

Randle's agent; Aaron Mintz, soon responded to Pelinka's comments.

“We still have no indication of where Julius stands among the Lakers' priorities, or if he is a priority at all,” Mintz said, according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times. “We are looking forward to the marketplace in July, when we will get a clear picture of Julius' future.”

Randle is bound to receive interest from several teams this offseason, one of them his hometown Dallas Mavericks, who will also explore luring the likes of DeMarcus Cousins and fellow Texas native DeAndre Jordan.

The Lakers have the cap room to sign two max-level free agent this summer, but Randle hasn't seemed to be a key priority so far, yet Pelinka wouldn't put a limit on how much the team would be willing to shell out for Randle's services.

“I think going into a process with kind of a position of entrenchment or here's the thin red line that we will not cross isn't necessarily the best way to approach something with an open-mindedness,” Pelinka said. “I think any negotiation is between two sides. Ultimately you're hoping to find a partnership.”

Randle has shown enough upside and improvement year after year to warrant a beefier contract, but the likeliness of his return to the City of Angels is still up in the air as of now.
