According to reports, the Los Angeles Lakers are set to make Tyronn Lue their next head coach, with an offer expected to be presented to him within the next couple of days. Several people close to controlling owner Jeanie Buss have expressed their support on this potential hire, including the team's former President of Basketball Operations, Magic Johnson.

LA Times' Tania Ganguli and Broderick Turner reported that Johnson and Buss recently had dinner, where the former told the latter that hiring Lue would be great for the Lakers.

Johnson and Buss had a dinner Thursday night during which they discussed Buss’ pending decision. Johnson expressed his support for Lue and impressed upon Buss how difficult a feat it is to make three consecutive NBA Finals appearances, the source said. Buss had been taking her time to be deliberate and not have the Lakers rush into any decision.

Rumors of Lue being the next coach of the Lakers came as early as November of last year when the team struggled to start strong during the regular season. Those speculations intensified when the team parted ways with coach Luke Walton.

The Lakers brought in Lue and Monty Williams for a series of interviews. However, with Williams signing a five-year deal with the Phoenix Suns, Lue became the most viable option for the Purple and Gold.

Once Lue signs with the Lakers, he will be reunited with four-time MVP LeBron James, whom he coached for two and a half seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
