Former two-time NBA champion Lamar Odom has reportedly checked himself into rehab to seek treatment in a facility in San Diego, California.
A year after being overdosed inside a legal brothel in Nevada, the 37-year-old Rhode Island product is looking to continue being sober. Contrary to the belief of many, he did not relapse and wanted to do it for his kids.
“He went to continue making sure he stays sober and on the right path. It was something he chose to do.”
In October of 2015, he was found unconscious and had to be rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles. His overdose almost cost him his life and it took a long road to recovery for Odom. Since the unfortunate incident, he has made public appearances and showed that he has put all his troubles behind him.
Odom last played in the NBA for the L.A. Clippers back in the 2012-2013 season and appeared in all 82 regular season, including six playoff games for the team. His most successful run though was when he was part of the Los Angeles Lakers squad that won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010 together with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.
He tried to make a comeback after his stint with the Clippers but was not able to generate a lot of interest from other teams. Odom's career averages of 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 14 seasons speaks highly of his all-around game and he was once considered as one of the better forwards in the league.
