LeBron James is lacing up his sneakers to play competitive basketball this offseason. The Los Angeles Lakers star is reportedly playing in the Drew League again and could be teaming up with Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan.
As first reported by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports and later confirmed by Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, James will be playing in the pro-am league on Saturday. DeRozan hinted that he and James would be teaming up.
As the Drew League website chronicles, LeBron James played in the Drew League back in 2011 during the NBA lockout. His mere presence electrified the gym and surprised league commissioner Dino Smiley. The King tallied 33 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
DeRozan is more of a regular in the Drew League. The Compton native has played in the league as recently as a few weeks ago and has been a consistent performer over the years. He is a member of the MMV Cheaters, so be on the lookout for James to be in their game against Black Pearl.
To this point, LeBron James' offseason has been comprised of rumors about what the Lakers plan to do with their roster. He recently made a point to discuss his high level of competitiveness as LA signs free agents and ponders what to do with Russell Westbrook.
The Drew League takes place at King/Drew Magnet High School in Los Angeles and sees numerous NBA players participate. As the NBA Las Vegas Summer League continues, there will be another basketball match that captivates fans. The LeBron James Drew League showdown with DeMar DeRozan should be a ton of fun to watch.
