The Detroit Lions signed linebacker Jamie Collins to a three-year, $30 million deal in the early stages of NFL free agency, giving him $18 million in guaranteed money.

Lions general manager Bob Quinn has made it no secret that he is planning for the club to be a playoff contender in 2020, and the addition of Collins to the defense could help propel Detroit toward that goal.

One thing is for sure: Collins is ready to bring his veteran presence to a franchise that sorely needs it. Via the Lions' team website:

“One play here, one play there. When you’re a player, you look at the game different than outsiders and fans. We break down the game and process the game and digest the game just different than the average person. It’s always one or two plays that’s the difference in the game and I just feel like me being a veteran now, I can bring some veteran, some professional little things to get us over the top, and I’m definitely up for the challenge.”

Given that Collins has had two separate stints with the New England Patriots and won a Super Bowl there during the 2014-15 campaign, it seems safe to say that he knows a thing or two about how to win games.

The 30-year-old returned to the Patriots for his second go-around with the club in 2019, playing in every game and finishing with 81 tackles, seven sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown.
