The Detroit Lions are currently taking a pounding at the hands of Sam Darnold and the New York Jets. At this point, the very last thing the Lions would like to see is starting quarterback Matthew Stafford to get hurt. But that’s exactly what happened midway through the third quarter, when Stafford was hit hard by two Jets defenders, leaving the signal-caller crumpled down on the ground.

Matthew Stafford was forced out of the field after that play and was temporarily replaced by backup Matt Cassel.

However, Cassel didn’t play much, as Stafford managed to get back into the field just minutes later.

Stafford is having a hard time in this game against the Jets’ stout defense. As of this writing, Stafford has already thrown four interceptions with only one touchdown. Boos have even started to rain down at Ford Field from extremely disappointed Detroit fans, who didn’t expect this kind of beatdown at the hands of Sam Darnold and the Jets.

The Lions are currently down by multiple scores, but they could still mount a comeback in the fourth quarter. They could also just opt to sit Stafford in this game and let Cassel take over the quarterbacking chores for the meantime than further risk Stafford’s health.
