Tragic news in the NFL today. Kelly Stafford, the wife of Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, announced today on Instagram that she has a brain tumor, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

Stafford said she will be having surgery to remove the tumor in the coming weeks. It's awful news, and we should all be hoping for a speedy recovery. Fortunately, from the tone of her post, it sounds like the tumor is treatable and there's a good chance of a full recovery.

Lions cornerback Darius Slay, a longtime teammate of Stafford, tweeted his support.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Dolphins made an attempt to trade for Stafford last offseason, but that Detroit had remained committed to the quarterback they drafted first overall back in 2009. It seems fairly safe to say that Stafford will be taking some time off from the Lions' offseason workouts in the coming months, and Detroit's management will surely give him all the time he needs.

The couple met in college while Matthew was the quarterback at Georgia, and got married in April of 2015.Ā Together they have three daughters, twins that were born in March of 2017 and another one born this past August. Here's to hoping that everything works out alright for the Stafford family.
