The Minnesota Lynx have overcome a poor start to the season to end up clinching a playoff berth. They suffered some key injuries and absences throughout the season but they are relatively healthy with the playoffs right around the corner. They are led by MVP candidate Napheesa Collier, but have had key contributions from other players on the team as well. One of those players is veteran guard Kayla McBride. McBride has been a key player for the past three seasons for the team. On Friday, the Lynx agreed to a contract extension with Kayla McBride as per Howard Megdal of The Next.

As per Megdal, Kayla McBride's contract extension with the Lynx is worth $208,000 in the first year and $205,000 in the second year and is fully protected. McBride was set to hit unrestricted free agency in the offseason and this ensures that she remains on the roster for at least the next two seasons barring any unforeseen trades or circumstances.

This season, McBride has been averaging 13.9 points per game, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals with splits of 42.7 percent shooting from the field, 33.9 percent shooting from the the three-point line and 86.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

McBride joined the Lynx as a free agent in 2021. She was originally drafted by the then San Antonio Stars with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft. She spent four seasons with the Stars and then remained with the team during their move to Las Vegas to become the Aces. She played another three seasons with the rebranded Aces franchise before joining the Lynx.
