A few weeks ago, Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks agreed on a two-year deal worth $40 million.

The move was a breath of fresh air considering how stars of today have switched teams unlike how it was done a decade or two before.

However, recent news broke out saying that has been a “slight” change in Nowitzki’s contract with Dallas. This was reported by ESPN’s Marc Stein.

While the decision to up the former Most Valuable Player’s compensation isn’t a common thing in contract talks, it’s not surprising either. This goes to show how much the franchise values its relationship with the player who has 18 years of service to them.

Furthermore, this could send a message to upcoming free agents on how Marc Cuban’s front office handles business, which could very well bring back good dividends in their future summer bids.

If there’s one major thing that this has taught us, it’s that Nowitzki has, and will always be, a Mavericks lifer.
