Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-103 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. Dallas is now headed to the NBA Finals as a result of the victory. Doncic and Kyrie Irving both scored 36 points in the game to lead the Mavs.

During the game, Doncic was seen exchanging words with a fan. The fan was heckling the Mavericks star, something that always ends up motivating Doncic.

So what led to Luka's NSFW exchange with the heckler?

“I can't tell you (what the heckler said), if I tell you I could sue him,” Doncic told reporters after the game. “But you know, that gets me going. Everybody knows that by now.”

Doncic entered the game with motivation. The heckler only added to that. He opened the game by scoring 10 of Dallas' first 13 points en route to a 20-point first quarter.

Doncic's hot start was crucial in giving the Mavericks early momentum. Luka explained his first quarter mindset while speaking on TNT's Inside the NBA.

“My mindset was just set a tone,” Doncic said. “I know that if I was going to go off in the first quarter, they were going to start doubling me. And then it's gonna open for everybody.”

Doncic scored 36 points on 14-22 shooting from the field and 6-10 shooting from beyond the arc. He added 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Irving scored 36 points while shooting 14-27 from the field and 4-10 from deep. Kyrie also finished with four rebounds and five assists.

Daniel Gafford fell just short of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. PJ Washington contributed 12 points and seven boards. Dereck Lively II, who has been dealing with a neck sprain, recorded nine points and eight rebounds. Lively added three assists and three blocks in the victory.

Doncic and Irving understandably receive no shortage of attention. After all, they are arguably the greatest scoring backcourt in NBA history, something that was discussed during the TNT Game 5 broadcast. But the Mavs stars understand how important it is to have help on the roster.

Dallas' depth is crucial. We mentioned three other players who made pivotal impacts. However, players such as Derrick Jones Jr., Josh Green, Jaden Hardy, and Maxi Kleber have helped matters as well.

Mavs-Celtics NBA Finals

The Mavericks will get to rest for the next week before battling the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. Boston was the best team in the NBA this season and they will unquestionably present Dallas with a challenge.

The Mavs, though, have been regarded as the underdog for most of the postseason up to this point. They have not seen it that way, however, as Dallas has played with confidence throughout the 2024 NBA playoffs.

Dallas will need one more major series upset to clinch the franchise's first title since 2011. The NBA Finals will feature a number of intriguing storylines. Kyrie Irving and Kristaps Porzingis will both be playing against their former teams, and neither star ended on a high note with their former squads.

Luka Doncic is attempting to win his first NBA title. At just 25 years old, Doncic has already cemented himself as a future legend. He can add to his legacy with a championship at such a young age. Many stars do not win their first championships until their late 20's or early 30's.

Of course, Jayson Tatum, who is only 26 years old, is looking to accomplish the same feat. Tatum has received criticism in the past for his playoff performances, but he can silence the doubters this year.

The 2024 NBA Finals projects to be exciting as the Mavericks look to pull off yet another upset.
