Rick Carlisle is set to become the new head coach of the Indiana Pacers. Now that he has his new gig, he has some advice for his old team, the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks have a head coaching vacancy, via Carlisle's departure. Via Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Carlisle believes Jason Kidd would be the perfect fit to coach Luka Doncic.

“It's hard to put an exact finger on it. It’s just a feeling that I had that it would be mutually beneficial. My hope is that Jason Kidd will be the next coach of the Mavs because he and Luka have so many things in common as players.” – Rick Carlisle.

While some may scoff at this idea, Carlisle noted he's the only one in the world who has coached both Kidd and Doncic, thus he sees his vision working out with both in Dallas with the Mavericks.

“I just think that it would be a great situation for Luka, and I think it would be an amazing situation for Jason. I’m the only person on the planet that’s coached both of those guys and that knows about all of their special qualities as basketball players.” – Rick Carlisle.

Whether or not Mavericks owner Mark Cuban opts to explore that option or go that route is yet to be seen. Currently, Kidd is an assistant coach on Frank Vogel's staff with the Lakers. His name has popped up on multiple occasions this offseason already as a possible option for some teams.

Laughing at Carlisle's opinion or dismissing it is the easy thing to do. But he does bring up some points that can't be disputed leaving some to ponder if Kidd to the Mavericks is a legitimate possibility.
