Mavericks vs. Celtics NBA Finals Game 2 Results According To NBA 2K24

According to our NBA 2K24 simulation, the Boston Celtics will defeat the Dallas Mavericks in Game 2 of the Finals by a score of 108-101. Despite an embarrassing second quarter performance that only saw them score nine points, the Celtics played better than the Mavericks throughout most of the game. However, they still needed to bring the game into Overtime to extend their series lead.

Yes, if you look at the scoreboard above, you'll notice Boston only put up nine points in the second quarter. Had they scored five points less, they would've broken a record for the least amount of points scored by an NBA team in a single quarter. But if you look at the rest of the game, the team actually played very well. They outscored the Mavericks in four other quarters, including Overtime.

Furthermore, the Mavericks' offense was extremely inefficient throughout the day. Outside of their strong 2nd quarter performance, the team never managed to score more than 23 points in any other quarter throughout the game. Yet, despite all of that, they still somehow took the game to overtime.

In terms of player performances, Jayson Tatum earns the game ball. He scored 32 points while earning 14 rebounds and adding an extra three assists to his stat sheet. Kristaps Porzingis also displayed why he's such an important player on this Celtics team. He finished the day with 13 points, 13 rebounds, three steals, and a block. Jaylen Brown also performed well, earning 28 points and six assists in the contest.

Kyrie Irving was the only Maverick to put up 20+ points on the night. He ended the day with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. However, He was extremely inaccurate throughout the game, which is something we don't expect to see from the star SG. Luka Doncic didn't play spectacularly either, recording 19 points along with 10 assists. Doncic also turned the ball over three times.

With the win, the Celtics take a 2-0 lead in the series. They now head to Dallas, where they can potentially end the series if they continue to play well. However, we just don't see it being that easy, considering how tough the Mavericks have been playing this year. That said, Boston finds themselves in a great spot, and in close range of winning the NBA Finals.

As for the Mavericks, the loss here puts them in a bad position. Although they'll be going back home for Games 2 & 3, they'll be hoping just to tie the series up during that stretch. That being said, the team has fought through some pretty intense series in the playoffs so far. We don't doubt their ability to make a strong come back effort. However, it will still be an uphill battle for Doncic, Irving, and co.

In terms of accuracy, we feel the game was a bit low scoring, considering it went to Overtime. However, if we adjust the sliders any more, then teams would be dropping 120+ points per game, which we feel isn't as realistic. Additionally, the constant fatigue of playing so often in the playoffs, it's expected to see point totals drop. So we're satisfied with the result for now. Regardless, we'll continue to adjust our sliders to find that perfect balance.
