The Dallas Mavericks are going all-out for Luka Doncic, who is set to sign a designated rookie max extension with the Mavs this offseason.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Dirk Nowitzki will be joining Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd, Nico Harrison and Michael Finley when the party visits Slovenia next week to meet Doncic. The group is set to present the Mavs youngster the five-year supermax extension that will pay him over $200 million.

It's certainly an awesome gesture from the Mavs and Dirk Nowitzki. It is also worth noting that the German legend has a good relationship with Luka Doncic, as the Slovenian played with him in his rookie year and the two share mutual respect for each other.

Also with Dirk considered as the greatest Mavs player ever, it sends a message on how important Dallas views Doncic–being the face, the present and future of the franchise.

Doncic is already expected to sign the supermax contract with the Mavs ever since the 2021 playoffs ended. His 2018 draft classmate, Trae Young, already inked a five-year, $207 million rookie extension with the Atlanta Hawks. However, Dallas had to delay the signing to allow the 22-year-old to focus on the Olympics with his native Slovenia.

With the expected extension, the Mavs are locking in Doncic for the majority of his prime years. However, the next task for the team is to build a roster around the superstar to help him and the city contend for a championship during that span.
