Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, and Don Nelson were a force with the Dallas Mavericks. The Nash and Nowitzki duo playing in Nelson's uptempo style was a match made in heaven with the Mavs, but it appears that the trio's cohesion was partially built off the court.

Dwain Price of Mavs.com spoke with Nelson, who said of Nash and Nowitzki:

“They just struck up a friendship because I just think their personalities kind of clicked and they both like to drink beers. They would hang out a lot after practices and after games and they just became inseparable.”

Friendships are forged on much weaker foundations. The two Hall of Famers (Nash is already a member of the Hall of Fame and Dirk is a lock as well) built a relationship that helped them flourish on the court. The pair made multiple All-Star Games while they were together, and they made a couple deep runs in the Western Conference.

This is a fun little anecdote from Nelson, but there has to be a better story hidden away somewhere. If Nash and Nowitzki's relationship was partially created by their mutual love of beer, they must have had some wild nights on the road. Maybe after Dirk retires he'll treat the world to one of the stories from their nights out on the town.

I'm sure they kept whatever stories they may have a secret from Nelson while they were playing, but now would be as good a time as any to let the world in on their beer-drinking exploits.
