Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks will once again deal with the LA Clippers in the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs just like a season ago. Dallas' focus remains largely the same with regards to slowing the Clippers, as the Mavs plan on how to contain Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
Stopping both of those guys is no easy task, and the Mavs could very well end up getting torched by George and Leonard over the series. However, the Mavs should be confident it can handle the job at least against George. Based on the stats floated by Hardwood Paroxysm, the Mavs had done an admirable job of making life hard for the Clippers forward.
Any Mavericks who get the assignment to keep in step with George in the first round isn't going to have an easy series, but somehow, Dallas appears to have the solution for him. The Mavericks and the Clippers played three times in the regular season, with the former winning two of those games. George played in all of them and averaged just 19.3 points on 37.3 percent shooting from the field. Those numbers are way off than his regular-season stats of 23.3 points on a 46.7 field goal percentage.
George could turn into a different monster in the playoffs and all these numbers would not matter at all in retrospect. But if you're a Mavs fan, these should at least help you sleep at night heading into Game 1 this coming Saturday.
