Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been fined $600,000 by the league office for public statements detrimental to the league, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. Cuban had made the comments in Feb. 18 when asked the road his team should take when mired in a hole in the Western Conference standings.

Cuban said his cellar-dwelling Mavericks would be best to tank throughout the second half of the season, with a 2017-18 campaign already at loss with Dirk Nowitzki likely playing out his 20th and last season with the franchise, and a rebuilding team that is now looking to cash in with young pieces.

The outspoken owner of the Mavs recently dealt with the consequences of a huge investigative piece by Sports Illustrated, filled with sexual harassment allegations that happened under his watch.

It seems that when it rains, it pours for the notorious Shark Tank panelist and business mogul — as these will be 24 hours to soon forget.

Cuban's franchise has been successful shortly after he took over the team in 2000, and the last two seasons bring a certain unfamiliarity for someone who is used to winning.

Following former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie and his model of tank-it-until-you-make-it has proven his only option at this time, with no way to propel his team to playoff contention.

Unluckily for him, the league is trying hard to clear up the stigma of a tanking league, having made changes to the draft lottery in order to right the ship over time.
