In just his second year in the NBA, Dallas Mavericks phenom Luka Doncic is already turning the heads of his colleagues. Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George — one of the league's top defenders — is one of those who are impressed by the rapid rise of the Mavs' youngster.
In George's opinion, Luka is still a “baby” who is “going to be scary” when he hits his prime.
In the Clippers' 114-99 victory over the Mavs, Doncic crawled to 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists. He shot just 4-of-14 from the field and o-of-8 from deep, getting the majority of his points on the free-throw line where he was 14-of-16. Luka also turned the ball over seven times.
Perhaps, this is what he needs to fix: the volume of his turnovers. Though it's almost inevitable that he'll turn the ball over several times (given that he's the team's guard and primary offensive weapon), ironing out this part of the game will elevate him to the next level.
Luka's defense has been considered as a liability as well. Opposing teams often try to switch Luka to their best offensive player.
Despite his glaring weaknesses, it's safe to say that Doncic is already on a steady trajectory towards superstardom.
