RUMOR: Wizards emerge as trade suitors for Mavs star Kristaps Porzingis
As it turns out, the Golden State Warriors are not the only team in the league that will be doing their due diligence on Dallas Mavericks big man Kristaps Porzingis. Unsurprisingly, a handful of teams have already been linked to the Latvian, with the Washington Wizards recently emerging as a suitor for the Mavs star.
This report comes via Chris Crouse of FortyEight Minutes:
The Wizards are among the teams monitoring the Porzingis’ status with the Mavericks, a source tells FortyEightMinutes.com. Washington would have interest in the 7’3″ big man as a potential third star alongside Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal.
Rumors recently surfaced that the Mavs were quietly looking at the possibility of moving on from Porzingis — something that team owner Mark Cuban vehemently denied. Another report stated that Dallas had actually reached out to the Warriors for a potential trade, which at this point, seems to signify that at the very least, the Mavs might be gauging the league’s interest in Porzingis.
As for the Wizards, a Porzingis swoop would significantly increase their stature in the East. They are currently sitting on an 11-18 record, and are 13th in the conference, but they could emerge as a playoff contender in the wide-open Eastern Conference if they are able to bring in a third star to play alongside Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook.
Washington will need to give up some of their assets in any potential Porzingis trade deal, though, who despite his injury history, still remains to be one of the top big men in the NBA today.
