Third basemen Kris Bryant is set to become a free agent after a solid stint with the San Francisco Giants in the second half of the 2021 season. While many teams will be eyeing his services, including the Giants, the New York Mets are one club that is expected to have discussions with Bryant's agent, Scott Boras, at GM Meetings this week according to The New York Post.

From a fit standpoint, the former Chicago Cubs slugger would be perfect for the Mets. They need a right-handed bat and a third baseman, while he's also versatile enough to play in the outfield as he did with the Giants. Between two teams last season, Bryant enjoyed a bounce-back year after a dismal 2020 campaign. He hit .265 with 25 home runs and 73 RBI's and proved to be a nice addition to San Fran as they won the National League West.

The Mets did inquire about Bryant at the trade deadline but instead opted to trade for his former teammate, Javier Baez. New York's options at third base were limited last season as well, with J.D. Davis and Jonathan Villar splitting time. Both players could be on their way out in the coming months.

There will surely be lots of competition for Bryant, though. The Mariners and Jays are expected to keep an eye on him. The Giants couldn't give a qualifying offer because of his departure from the Cubs, but given how well he did with them, there's a possibility Bryant signs a new deal there.

With a left-handed heavy lineup, the Mets could certainly use Kris Bryant.
