The University of Michigan's men's basketball team is landing one of the best recruits the school has seen in recent years. ESPN Top 100 player Khani Rooths verbally committed to the Wolverines and Coach Juwan Howard on Sunday, per ESPN. Rooths chose Michigan basketball over Georgia and Florida State.

Rooths is the no. 23 player in the ESPN Top 1oo list of the 2024 class. Rooths is a 6-foot-8 forward who is expected to earn playing time right away for Juwan Howard. He's been lauded for both his offense and defense. Rooths is also the highest ranked recruit to commit to Michigan basketball since the 2021 class.

“They have had players like me drafted at the wing position,” Rooths said, per ESPN. “I know this is a great opportunity for me to play at Michigan.”

Rooths plays in Florida currently at IMG Academy, a basketball powerhouse in the prep circuit. He's capable of playing either forward position. The young forward said he bonded with Coach Howard on his recruiting trip to the school.

“Coach Howard will help me grow as a better man,” Rooths said.

Coach Juwan Howard and the Wolverines are 2-0 on the season, with wins over UNC Asheville and Youngstown State. The Wolverines missed the NCAA tournament last year and are looking to get back to playing in the Big Dance for the 2023-24 campaign. Michigan next plays Rick Pitino's St. John's team Monday at 6:30 Eastern.

Michigan now has three recruits in its 2024 class, with Rooths joining four-star guards Durral Brooks and Christian Anderson. The future certainly looks bright for the Wolverines men's basketball program.
