Carlos Correa had been an integral part of the Houston Astros' tremendous run of success. His clutch hitting has made him a legend in the franchise and one of its best-ever players. Yet, even as the team remains one of the best in baseball, he joined a Minnesota Twins team that finished last in the AL Central.

Despite the strong things that the Twins have going for them, such as its friendly hitting environment, there was an even bigger reason why Correa left. According to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle, the Astros didn't even bother to reach out to him after the lockout ended.

“We didn’t hear from them,” Correa told The Chronicle on Wednesday. “That’s all I can say.”

This is a shocking revelation from Correa. The Astros offered him a contract that was well below his value at the start of free agency. Not doing anything more to pursue him is crazy, as is refusing to ship him out at the trade deadline to land some new prospects. Still, despite not reaching out to him, Correa has nothing but nice things to say about the organization he spent the past seven years with.

“I’m just grateful for everyone in that organization,” Correa said. “They made me the player that I am today. They helped me grow into the person I am today. I only got great things to say about them.”

The Astros still boast a loaded team with great hitters like Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker, Yordan Álvarez and Alex Bregman. But losing Correa means missing some very important defense and leadership. Contending for the AL crown without him is doable but much more difficult.
