The Houston Astros fired a combined no-hitter on Saturday in their 3-0 victory against the New York Yankees. It was the first time New York had been no-hit since 2003… which also came in the form of a combined no-hitter by Houston, via Jeff Passan. Christian Javier spun 7 innings of hitless baseball while striking out 13 and walking just 1. Hector Neris and Ryan Pressley combined to finish off the historic performance.
Cristian Javier is almost certainly done after seven brilliant no-hit innings vs. the Yankees. He threw a career-high 115 pitches, struck out 13, walked one and outdueled Gerrit Cole while preserving a 1-0 lead.

Dusty Baker would have loved to let Christian Javier finish off the masterpiece. However, the right-hander was at 114 pitches through 7 innings. The Astros have serious World Series aspirations so letting him work past that and risking injury would not have been the best decision. Regardless, Javier's effort was incredible given that the Yankees have been a force on offense all season.
Hector Neris made things interesting after walking a pair in the 8th. But he was able to work around the base runners and keep the Yankees off of the scoreboard and out of the hit column.
Ryan Pressley finished off the ballgame with a perfect 9th inning. The Astros closer didn't allow a base runner and struck out two hitters in the process.
Giancarlo Stanton made the final out on a ground ball to third baseman Alex Bregman, who calmly threw to first to end the game.

The Astros has taken the first two games of the series following Saturday's victory. They could make a huge statement against MLB's best team with a series sweep in New York. Houston will aim to earn that sweep on Sunday.
But for now, they will celebrate the no-hitter.
