Carlos Correa wasn't even a primary option for the Minnesota Twins this offseason. Before making one of the most surprising moves of the offseason, the Twins were in talks with another star shortstop and thought they would land him before signing the former Houston Astros star.
According to The Athletic's Dan Hayes and Ken Rosenthal, the Twins thought they would land Trevor Story. Once the price for Story's services rose, they had to shift their sights. They didn't anticipate that they would be shifted to Correa, despite team owner Jim Pohlad being very fond of him. Soon after losing out on Story, they got wind from Correa's agent, Scott Boras, that they could land the star shortstop and went to work.

Then Boras intrigued them even more, suggesting Correa potentially would consider a contract between three and four years if the money was right.
“We both perked up,” Levine said. “This is a real opportunity.”
The Twins had a solid team in place for Correa, though it will take more work for them to become a true contender. His hitting and defense make the Twins infield — which features former All-Stars Jorge Polanco and Miguel Sano and solid third baseman Gio Urshela — one of the best in baseball. The front office still has work to do in order to get the Twins back to the World Series.
