For the Minnesota Twins, their offense has been a big catalyst in their successful 2019 season, which just recently resulted in them clinching the American League Central divisional title. Specifically at the plate, their home run mashing has brought this team up to a different level, one that the sport of baseball has never seen before. Jonathan Schoop helped highlight this recently.
Being the first team in the history of the MLB to reach the 300-home run plateau, the Twins ascended into the laurels of history when they trounced the lowly Detroit Tigers on Thursday at Comerica Park, 10-4. This win, which culminated in a sweep, helped put a nice, pretty bow on the top of what has been an outstanding season for the Twins.
Thursday’s six-run victory over the Tigers was highlighted by Schoop’s 23rd bomb of the year, which left the bat at 44 degrees, which is a very tough angle for a ball to be hit and still land over the fence. The wall-scrapping 371-foot blast ensured that the Twins would be the first team to get to 300, as they came into the day tied with the New York Yankees at 299 home runs on the season.

Willians Astudillo also decided to get in on the fun, as he hit a solo shot in that same inning to push their total to 301 home runs on the year. Astudillo recorded his first career four-hit game, and the Twins were able to easily clinch the Central title over the Tigers in what turned out to be a bit of a lazy day that allowed the team to put their rookies out in mop-up duty.
After getting out to such a big league over their divisional counterparts, the Cleveland Indians, the Twins were able to hold off the charging Tribe over the second half of the season, forcing their rivals to fight it out with the Oakland Athletics and the Tampa Bay Rays for the two Wild Card spots. This season was marked with copious amounts of success under a rookie manager, as Rocco Baldelli helped lead this team to results not many people thought were possible.
Armed as an offensive juggernaut at the plate and with a solid starting rotation and bullpen, the Twins are a team that no one should want to face come October. While not in the same tier as the Houston Astros and the Yankees, the Twins have the firepower to make some noise and compete for the AL crown, as playing the role of the underdog has fit them like a glove the whole season.
