According to a Tuesday evening report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the NBA's plans for a virtual draft combine are “progressing” toward creating regional sites for next month.

However, even though this year's combine and other related events are continuing to progress in the right direction, Wojnarowski adds that the league has still not made a final decision regarding the eventual location—or the exact format—for the 2020 NBA Draft, which is currently scheduled for Oct. 16.

The NBA is progressing on plans for a virtual draft combine to be held at regional sites throughout month of September, sources tell ESPN,” writes Wojnarowski. “Formal plans could be completed and shared with teams in the next week, sources said.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the NBA was previously forced to cancel its original combine festivities that were slated to take place in Chicago back in May. With an event of that nature still off the table for the league, the NBA has since shifted a virtual plan that would obviously limit travel in addition to keeping the amount of individual players regulated at various sites. Wojnarowski is also reporting that the modified virtual combine sites will include COVID-19 testing for its participants.

The NBA is currently in the midst of the first round of the postseason with the league's restart down in Orlando already watching all of its eight seeding games per team come and go without a hitch. Although it initially seemed unlikely, the NBA will seemingly crown a champion in 2019-20 after all, which will then subsequently kick off the offseason for the 2020-21 campaign.
