The New Orleans Pelicans have selected Duke University forward Zion Williamson with the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Williamson, the consensus National Player of the Year as a freshman, averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game last season. At 6-foot-7 and a chiseled 285 pounds, his combination of sheer size and overall athleticism is unlike any the game has ever seen before. But Williamson is much more than an athlete, too, combining his singular physical tools with advanced basketball IQ and an unrelenting motor to make him a potentially transcendent player at the next level.

Though some believe he's the best prospect to enter the NBA since LeBron James, Williamson still has many questions to answer before becoming a superstar at the next level.

Most significant among them concerns the development of his jumper. Williamson shot a slightly below-average 33.8 percent from beyond the arc as a freshman and made just 64.0 percent of his free throws, further affirming an eye test that makes it clear he needs to continue refining his stroke to reach his potential.

It's also unclear if he'll eventually be a primary ball handler in the NBA or more of a play finisher and second-side attacker against scrambling defenses.

Even if Williamson never becomes a reliable three-point shooter or full-time playmaking force, though, he's such a dynamic athlete that it seems likely he'll develop into an All-Star regardless.

Combined with the stylistic and lineup flexibility Williamson's presence naturally unlocks, the Pelicans have one of the league's most valuable building blocks, and the exceedingly rare player who could make them forget about trading Anthony Davis sooner rather than later.
