The Los Angeles Lakers could pursue soon-to-be free agent center Nikola Vucevic, should his talks with the Orlando Magic go awry in July, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski (via Keith Smith of RealGM).

The Boston Celtics have also expressed interest in the big man, who earned his first All-Star selection after averaging career-highs across the board with 20.8 points and 12 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

The Lakers have been looking at Vucevic as a potential target for a while now, but this might be their best opportunity to strike for his services.

The 28-year-old won't come easily though, as he stands to make the most money by staying with the Magic, after earning only $53 million in a four-year deal.

Vucevic and the Magic have a mutual interest, but it's yet to be seen if the front office is willing to dole out a big check after giving Aaron Gordon a sizable contract last summer.

Los Angeles can't possibly offer the same as Orlando can, let alone the extra year — but there is a potential need at center that could let Anthony Davis operate at power forward and take some of the bulk of defending bruising centers on an everyday basis.

At a stout 7-feet and 260 pounds, Vucevic is deceptively strong, but not the best defender — yet he's blocked at least a shot per game during the last four seasons, making him no slouch under the rim.

Playing him at center would allow for Davis to thrive as a weak side defender, while getting the gears started in transition.

The only downside of acquiring him would be pushing Kyle Kuzma into a bench role, one he could thrive in, but not so ideal for his development as a player or his potential to stay with the team long-term.
