There are some big changes coming to this year's All-Star Game, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver weighed in on one of the most interesting — and controversial — topic.

This year, the players from each conference who get the most votes will be named captains of the All-Star teams, and get to pick their own teammates. This is quite a departure from previous years, and there will also be no East versus West.

Something that's come up about the team-picking is whether or not the league would televise the captains picking their teams. It was announced that the league would not, prompting fans to collectively rabble in objection to that decision.

Silver, in an interview with Tas Melas from “The Starters,” explained his reasoning.

“Yes, it would be more fun if we had that kind of draft,” Silver said. “On the other hand, I recognize that in picking a team to perform in the here and now, it's a little different than drafting. There was a sense from the players that it put them in an impossible position, where they're picking one player over another, in part not because they necessarily think that player is better than another player. Maybe because they have a personal relationship with the player or they think that player will be a better complement to the players. And that, invariably, if they just did it as a pure draft, guys would say, ‘Oh I can't believe such-and-such was selected before that player.”

It's a very reasonable explanation. However, there isn't much left to say about this topic other than what you can read below. Here it comes.
