In the case of the NBA season suspension brought about by the current coronavirus pandemic, a number of players have gone out of their way to ensure that the people most affected by this lockout are still properly compensated.
The silver lining is every tragedy is how it binds us all together in these trying times. Every now and again, we are collectively faced with seemingly insurmountable odds, but it is in these very moments that more often than not, the genuine kindness and humanity of people emerge.
Their heartwarming generosity has been recently recognized by no less than former U.S. President Barack Obama.

For the blue collar workers that are paid by the hour, the suspension of the NBA season means that they won't be required to work, and as a result, they will not be receiving their usual compensation. These are our countrymen who live paycheck to paycheck, so missing out on just one would be disastrous, to say the least.
This is exactly why players like Kevin Love, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Zion Williamson, and Blake Griffin — to name a few — will be digging into their own pockets to ensure that these people will still be able to take home their usual salaries. Given how these superstars earn by the millions, these donations won't dent their bank accounts, but for the recipients of their generosity, it could be a matter of life and death.
