Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has opened the state’s doors to any sports league looking for a temporary sanctuary to resume or start its season. Leagues like the NBA have been debating holding the rest of its season in Las Vegas or Orlando, which falls right into DeSantis’ invitation:

“All these professional sports are going to be welcome in Florida,” said DeSantis on Wednesday afternoon. “That may not be the case in every other state in this country, as you may have seen. So what I would tell commissioners of leagues is if you have a team in an area where they just won’t let them operate, we’ll find a place for ya here in the state of Florida because we think it’s important and we know that it can be done safely.”

The NBA has been accelerating ideas to potentially resume the 2019-20 season after a two-month hiatus, though only a few teams have been allowed to work out in their respective facilities.

NBA teams have to abide by their respective state’s edicts, and teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers could be waiting a while, considering Los Angeles County could be effectively shut down for another three months under the most recent stay-at-home mandate.

Just imagine the possibilities here:

Other leagues like Major League Baseball and the National Football League have also taken steps to figure out logistics for starting their seasons.

All team-based sports have been in limbo due to the coronavirus outbreak. UFC 249 on Saturday was the first live sports event since sporting leagues closed their doors temporarily in mid-March.

DeSantis’ offer could be one a few leagues come to consider, though the financial implications, logistics, and the risk-reward ratio remain huge factors as to their ultimate decisions over the coming weeks and months.
